March 23, 2012
March 23rd was my last day volunteering at MEND. It was kind of sad, but it was also very eventful. We had another volunteer sale and Mary, my supervisor, put me in charge of charging for the items, because she had to leave early to go take care of her daughter (she had a doctor's appointment). I was a little nerve-wrecked, but I did it because she needed my help and it was quite a compliment. As I was ringing people up, I felt overwhelmed; I had no clue what to charge. Fortunately, Chris, Mary's assistant, showed up to help me out. Once we finished the sale, he put me in charge of counting the money and comparing it to the form we had all the purchasers sign. We did very well. It was a nice way of ending my service learning, because it gives me confidence that I can take charge of things and it is also nice to know that people can feel comfortable leaving me in charge. I hope I can go back and volunteer on my spare time: it has been a very rewarding experience, both personally and professionally. I am going to miss all the volunteers and the relationships I formed. I hope to see them all soon. Thank you MEND! :-)

Hi Wendy, I'm glad you enjoyed your time at MEND. It's really an eye opener to realize how much we have and how much we take for granted compared to so many others. We are very lucky. I hope you are able to continue volunteering at MEND as it's good for all of us to understand how fortunate we are.
